Three Tips To Make Sure Termites Don't Annoy You This Summer

Blog

Summer weather is really starting to hit in Australia, and the temperature is rising on a daily basis. During the summer, the secondary queen termites begin mass egg laying to replace those termites which were washed away in the spring rains. The excess moisture from rain and humidity make soil conditions moist and warm, so the termites have plenty of food sources nearby. As someone who has recently bought their first home, you don't want this summer to be the one where you learn about termite damage the hard way. Here are three things you can do to make sure termites don't become a pesky problem for you.

Move Leftover Firewood

During the winter, you kept the firewood close to your home so that you could easily access it on the cold winter nights. But now that summer is close and termite activity is more prevalent, it is time to move the wood away from your home. The reason for this move is because termites will happily move into the woodpile to live. You don't want termites close enough to your house that they're just a hop, skip or jump away from your interior timber frames.

Landscaping Maintenance

Termites love to live in decaying or dead trees because the non-living wood is softer and easier to tunnel through to make a home. Now is the time to have a close look at all the trees on your property, and identify any which are diseased or dead. Remove dead limbs, or even whole trees if necessary, to reduce the housing options for termites looking for a new home to lay their eggs.

Patio Furniture Maintenance

If you have wooden furniture out on the patio waiting for the summer entertaining season to begin, now is also the time to take a close look at this furniture. You are looking for small bore holes in the furniture which are an indicator that termites have already taken up residence within. These holes are as small as a pin, so make sure you look closely. If there is no sign of termite infestation, give the furniture a coat of clear sealant to help keep them out.

If you find evidence of termites in your trees or outdoor furniture, then you need to call for help from a professional termite control company They can inspect the infestation, advise on how much damage has been done and recommend treatment options to get rid of these annoying pests. Don't delay tackling termite infestation because it can quickly spread and do major damage to your home if they are able to get a foot inside your front door.

Growing Village - A Simple Guide To Real Estate

Hello there. I have spent my whole life in the same house. I inherited it from my parents, and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. When I was a child, my parents referred to our town as a "seaside village". My how things have changed! These days, I live in centre of a major city with resorts and highrises all around. Seeing the transformation has been absolutely fascinating. As I've watched the value of houses around me skyrocket, I've developed a voyeur's interest in the real estate market. I love nothing more than browsing in a real estate agent's window, attending an open house or watching an auction. I know that this is a hobby for quite a few people as some of my neighbours join me on my "excursions". I hope that others with an interest in real estate will enjoy the casual observations recorded in this blog.
